Leaky sewage discharge pipe elbow joints, located at a waste water treatment facility in Tennessee, can cost up to $100,000 and several days of down time to replace after failure.

With over 40 such pipes in this plant, each of which is at least 40 years old, the facility engineers were looking for a fast, durable and cost effective repair and protection system.

They called on their local ENECON Distributor to help find a solution. He recommended that ENECON’s DuraWrap Carbon Fiber Pipe Wrap System.

The pipe was first prepared by brush blasting to remove all loose material and corrosion. Any holes in the pipe were sealed with METALCLAD SpeedAlloy followed by a reinforcement layer of METALCLAD DurAlloy. After the DuraWrap primer was applied, the first coat of polymer saturated carbon fiber was used to wrap the pipe followed by the second layer.
