A candy manufacturer in the western United States contacted ENECON in the hope of solving a severe corrosion issue that was not only unsightly but beginning to impact the steel railing’s structural integrity.

The facility hosts daily tours for the public and did not want unsightly corrosion like this to be customers “first impression” of their operation.

Besides simply removing the rust and coating the railing, it was observed that an original design flaw caused water and ice melt products to pond at the railing base flanges. This was the cause of the corrosion.

The ENECON solution was to remove the loose rust and rebuild the areas around the base flanges with ENECRETE DuraQuartz to solve the ponding issues. With its extraordinary bond strength to both existing concrete and steel, as well as zero shrinkage during curing, DuraQuartz was the ideal solution.

ENECRETE DuraQuartz is a three component, 100% solids, concrete repair compound specifically formulated and precisely engineered to provide solutions to even the most difficult concrete repair and protection problems. For more information about ENECRETE DuraQuartz please visit: ENECRETE DuraQuartz

The entire area was then over coated with ENESEAL CR to add an additional layer of protection from future corrosion.

ENESEAL CR is a single component, water based, liquid coating which dries to a highly durable, corrosion resistant, elastomeric ‘skin’ that provides extraordinary environmental protection. For more information about ENESEAL CR please visit: ENESEAL CR

The project was scheduled around tour hours and completed with no impact on operations. The company’s management was so impressed with the transformation, ENECON has been asked to address the rest of the railings at their complex.
