To repair a broken and leaking pump

  • Products Used DuraFill
  • Status Completed

This south Florida water authority needed a repair solution for a broken and leaking pump well head. An upcoming inspection by state officials at the facility, to ensure a mandated zero leakage policy, was taking place in one week. A replacement head would take 8-10 weeks and cost over $60,000. If a repair solution was not found, the water authority would have to shut that part of the plant down and also face potential fines.

The local ENECON Field Engineering Specialist suggested encapsulating the pump head in Durafill because of its unique adhesion and compressive strengths.

A cylindrical former was made and the area was cleaned. A release agent was used to coat the former and the DuraFill was mixed and poured in. The next day the former was removed and the entire well head was coated with ENESEAL CR to protect the metal components as well as for aesthetics.

The state inspection took place and the DuraFill repair passed with flying colors. This is one problem the water authority no longer needs to worry about.
