Canadian Paper Mill Salvages Pump & Pedestal with DuraQuartz & CHEMCLAD SC
The pump was removed and sent out for grit blasting during which time the pump pedestal was completely rebuilt with DuraQuartz.
After the pump was put back in place and aligned, more DuraQuartz was used to grout-in the entire pump unit. Additional DuraQuartz was then used to fill the gap between the pump and the pedestal. In this way, the acetic liquid would not get under the pump and attack the concrete pedestal in the future.
Two coats of CHEMCLAD SC were then applied over the entire pump assembly including the pedestal to provide long term corrosion protection. This entire project cost about $10,000. A conventional repair and replacement alternative would have cost more than double
This pump pedestal at a pulp and paper mill in Quebec, Canada, was virtually destroyed by the acetic liquid being pumped.
