Project Description

This hydroelectric power station, built in the 1930’s, wanted to protect all four of their Francis Turbines from accelerated cavitation attack.

The ENECON U.K. Engineering Team recommended the FLEXICLAD DuraTough system to rebuild, resurface and protect these vital components from future cavitation damage. After a thorough investigation, the plant engineers were ‘sold’ on the DuraTough system.

After thorough grit blasting, the cavitated areas of the turbine blades were first rebuilt with DuraTough DP and then the turbine blade surfaces were coated with the full DuraTough DL system (DuraTough Primer + DL green + DL blue).

The entire project was successfully completed in just 5 days utilizing a six-person crew ably supervised by the local, U.K. based, ENECON field engineer.
