    Repair the staircase

  • Products Used CHEMCLAD SC and DuraFill
  • Status Completed

This staircase outside of a major Philadelphia hospital was becoming an unsafe tripping hazard for patients, employees and guests. The concrete was crumbling and the metal tread bull noses were separating from the steps. The hospital maintenance team had tried several repairs in the past, all of which failed.

The hospital’s Director was faced with the dilemma of replacing the staircase, which would cost tens of thousands of dollars and disrupt the area for an extended period of time. That’s when the local ENECON Field Engineering Specialist was called to help find a trusted repair solution.

It was decided to repair the stairs with ENECRETE DuraFill and protect them with CHEMCLAD SC.

The steps were ground, chiselled and scraped to remove all loose, crumbling concrete then cleaned. Any areas with concrete loss were patched with a trow able mixture of ENECRETE DuraFill and sand. DuraFill resins were then rolled over the entire staircase with a broadcast of sand back-rolled into it.

Finally, a top coat of yellow tinted CHEMCLAD SC was applied to protect the stairs from harsh ice melt chemicals and to also provide an aesthetic finish.

This turn-key project was completed in just 4 days for a fraction of the replacement cost of the staircase. The hospital’s Director was extremely pleased with this time and money saving application.
