0332- School district solves safety and unsightly wall issues

Industry: Facilities Maintenance
Problem: Safety Surfacing
Project Goal: To upgrade their facilities hallways and restrooms
Location: United States
Status: Completed
Products Used: DuraFill, DuraQuartz
Project Description

A northeastern school district needed to upgrade their facilities' hallways and restrooms. The original wall surfaces were ceramic tiles that had become cracked with missing tiles in many locations. This condition was a serious safety concern for the district officials.

The school district turned to their local ENECON Distributor to propose a cost-effective solution that would solve the safety issues and result in a new, low maintenance, aesthetically pleasing wall system.

Following the appropriate surface preparation, which included abrading and cleaning the tiles, the walls were treated with a 4-coat ENECRETE DuraFill system. This system included rolling/brushing a layer of DuraFill and then manually broadcasting colored decorative vinyl chips/flakes into the wet DuraFill and letting this first layer set overnight. After it has dried a trowel is used to smooth out and remove any loose chips/flakes.

Additional similar layers – a total of 3 – were applied each day followed by a final layer of just the DuraFill clear resins – about one week total.

This DuraFill broadcast system application also included filling in any damaged and missing tiles with ENECRETE DuraQuartz.

This attractive wall finish provided the school with a long-term solution to what had been a troublesome maintenance issue.
